Can Dominick Reyes dethrone Jon Jones at UFC 247 tonight in the main event? Jon Jones has been regarded as the best MMA fighter of all-time? Dominick Reyes is no joke as he enters the fight with a 12-0 record. Jones enters the fight with a 24-1 record seems unstoppable. Of course, the lone loss on Jones record came from an illegal elbow strike. Is Reyes poised to take down Jones to become the new light heavyweight champion? If Jones were to beat Reyes, what else is there to prove in this weight class? There was speculation he would move up to heavyweight and possibly challenge champion Stipe Miocic or maybe Francis Ngannou. Or maybe the talked-about fight with middleweight champ Israel Adesanya would get fast-tracked. Did Reyes see something during Jones last fight against Santos?
Can Reyes Pull It Off at UFC 247?
Despite winning all of his fights, Jones has had issues against long fighters. Reyes is a much younger, longer and bigger fighter than Santos. I’m thinking this will be the toughest fight for Jones since Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 in December 2018. For me, when Jones is focused the only fighter that can defeat him is himself. Jones will have to be on the lookout for that left hand from Reyes though. Reyes will use his athleticism, Jones will use his IQ. Jones is one of the smartest fighters you’ll see, which makes him so dangerous. When you think something is going your way, he finds a way to take you down and then that’s a wrap. With Jones eyeing a move up to the heavyweight division, could he let his guard down? Is Reyes on his way to being the next star in the UFC?
Who Do I Have Winning?
This should be an amazing fight and one that Jones will try to finish early. If Reyes withstands the early barrage, he has a chance against Jones. In the end, I’m picking Jones to find a way in the later rounds to beat Reyes and remain the champion. Who do you see leaving UFC 247 as champion? Who do you want to leaving as the champion?
