3 Potential Destinations for Jameis Winston

We just finished figuring out potential destinations for former MVP Cam Newton. Jameis Winston is coming off a historic season, which was bad and good. Winston finished last season with the most passing yards in the NFL. He also finished the season with 33 TD passes to go along with 30 INTs. With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signing Tom Brady, Jameis Winston took to social media to bid farewell to Tampa. For me, Winston can still be a top guy in the league, but he may have two options for next season. The first could see him being a backup for a new team. The other would be him sitting out and wait for an injury to happen. I’m not seeing Winston sitting out, so we’ll see 3 potential destinations for Jameis Winston.

Los Angeles Chargers

If Jameis were to go to a situation like Los Angeles, he’d have a lot of weapons like he did in Tampa Bay. After the season, Winston had Lasik eye surgery, and this could have caused a lot of those interceptions. While many people are writing him off, he’s still 26-years-old. Winston has thrown a lot of interceptions, but guys like Peyton Manning, Dan Marino and Brett Favre had a history of tosses a lot of picks. Of course, we’re talking about 2 guys that’s in the Hall-Of-Fame. Peyton will join them in a couple years and I’m still not ready to give up on Winston. If he were to go to the Chargers, he would have to compete for the starting position. If you’ve followed his career, you know that he’s never shied away from competition.

New England Patriots

New England already has Jarrett Stidham and Cody Kessler on their roster. The Patriots just brought back Brian Hoyer on a 1-year deal, but could you see New England going after Winston? Actually, this would make a lot of sense on so many ways. Winston is very talented, and Coach Belichick could definitely show him a thing or two. With Brady taking over for Winston in Tampa, this would be a Belichick move to bring Winston in to counter them. Jameis is mobile enough to escape pressure and help out the offensive line. New England will still need to bring in some weapons to give whoever becomes the quarterback.

Pittsburgh Steelers

With the uncertainty when it comes to Big Ben, Pittsburgh may need to start looking for his successor. Many will think that Mason Rudolph is his eventual replacement, but could he be the leader moving forward? In my opinion, it wouldn’t hurt to bring in Winston to compete for the job. Winston is still young and has a lot to prove to any organization. The Steelers have some weapons on the outside, but they also put a lot of emphasis on the running game. During his time in Tampa, Winston never really had a great running game. With a good run game, that would open things with the play action and Winston could strive in that. I’m all for Jameis being the backup to Big Ben and eventually taking over for him.
