We’re four weeks away until WrestleMania and now it’s time for the Elimination Chamber. With WrestleMania around the corner, neither of the world championships are being defended. Brock Lesnar will be defending the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre. Goldberg will defend his newly won Universal Championship against Roman Reigns. As far as the Elimination Chamber goes, there’s WrestleMania implications taking place. The winner of the Raw Women’s Elimination Chamber match will face Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship. In the other Chamber match, we’ll see who heads into WrestleMania as the Smackdown tag titles. Andrade defends his United States Championship against Humberto Carrillo. Let’s see how things turned out at the Elimination Chamber PPV.
The opening bout saw what we knew would be a technical masterpiece. Daniel Bryan took on Drew Gulak because Gulak said he has the formula to beat Daniel Bryan. If you’re a fan of mat wrestling, counters and just a scrappy match, this was for you. Daniel Bryan and Drew Gulak put on a clinic and it was a very physical match. With Bryan having a history of neck and head injuries, he took a lot of crazy bumps. Gulak took his fair share of punishment throughout the match also. They locked in submissions and a sick display of suplexes and the crowd was into it. In the end, Bryan locked in the Yes-Lock until Gulak passed out. Winner: Daniel Bryan
Match Rating: 4.25/5- Awesome opener and technical masterpiece from these two. Matches like this is the reason I fell in love with wrestling. After the match, Bryan showed his respect to Gulak before leaving the ring.
We had Andrade defending his United States Championship against Humberto Carrillo. These two have been going at it for a few months now. Carrillo put Andrade out for a month aka wrote him off TV due to be suspended for a wellness violation. During that time, Carrillo fought with his cousin, Angel Garza whom Zelina Vega brought in. Andrade came back and Carrillo pinned him on an episode of Raw earning him this championship opportunity. This match was really exciting as it was filled with high flying mixed in with some physicality. Andrade tried to hit the DDT on the floor, but it was reversed. They both tried pinning each other. Carrillo tries yet again for a roll-up; Andrade reverses and holds the tights for the victory. Winner and Still United Champ: Andrade
Match Rating: 3.5/5
We had the Elimination Chamber match for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. John Morrison & Miz won the titles from New Day a few weeks back at Super Showdown. We also had the Usos, Lucha House Party, Heavy Machinery and Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode. I’ve tweeted that the Lucha House Party should be featured more and even pushed. They were awesome and unfortunately, they were eliminated first. After more great action, Otis went through the pods trying to smash Ziggler. Tucker went crazy on Ziggler & Roode, but he eventually was pinned eliminating Heavy Machinery. After mocking Otis, the Usos eliminated Ziggler & Roode.
After more battling, New Day was eliminated by Morrison & Miz making it them and Usos remaining. The Usos superkicks to both Miz and Morrison, pin attempt, two-count. Morrison and Miz get back up, both stack up Jey in a pinning attempt with Miz’s feet on the ropes for the 1-2-3. Winners and Still Smackdown Tag Champs: John Morrison & Miz
Match Rating: 4.5/5- Awesome match!
We had the Phenomenal A.J. Styles taking on Aleister Black. This came about when the O.C. jumped Black a few weeks ago in the backstage area. This was a No Disqualification match, which meant that anything goes. With these two battling, we expected a lot of striking from two of the best strikers in the WWE. A lot of great action throughout this match as they even took it to the floor. They used a table plus a kendo stick in this match. Black looks for Black Mass. Gallows runs in, gets dropped. Anderson in, and then eats a knee. The O.C. swarm Black and swing away on him. Styles looks to hit the phenomenal forearm, but Undertaker’s music hits! Lights go out.
When they come up, Undertaker is choking out both Gallows and Anderson. Styles tries for the phenomenal forearm; Taker catches him in midair and then hits a chokeslam. Lights go out and The Deadman is gone. Black is back up and cracks Styles with Black Mass, cover, 1-2-3. Winner: Aleister Black
Match Rating: 3.5/5
We had the Street Profits facing Seth Rollins & Murphy in a rematch for the Raw tag titles. The Street Profits won the tag titles a week ago on Raw. The Street Profits are as over as any team on Raw right now as the crowd is behind them. Seth Rollins & Murphy is hoping to win the titles back to help with his teachings. Both of these teams continue to battle each other mixed with nearfalls. As they fought, through the crowd comes Kevin Owens, eating some popcorn. Owens tosses some popcorn at Rollins; Dawkins absolutely runs over Rollins as his attention is on Rollins. Murphy is then sent into the barricade. Back in the ring, powerbomb by Dawkins on Murphy. Ford with the big frog splash, cover, 1-2-3. Winners and Still Raw Tag Team Champs: Street Profits
Match Rating: 3.25/5
We had Braun Strowman defending his Intercontinental Championship against Sami Zayn, Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura. Strowman won the championship from Nakamura a few weeks ago on Smackdown. Braun dominated the match for the most part as he was unstoppable. Braun targeted Zayn for most of the match as he couldn’t get his hands on him. Strowman then stares at Zayn, Zayn tries for a cheap shot to the back and runs out of the ring. Strowman in pursuit as he takes out both Cesaro and Nakamura. Zayn runs under the ring, Nakamura and Cesaro run over and stomp away at the champion. Zayn comes back out, smiling as the three of them send Strowman into the ring steps. Knee to the back of the neck by Nakamura.
Cesaro looks for the gotch piledriver, no luck. Zayn helps Cesaro, runs away. Strowman charges at Cesaro, misses, and runs into the ring post. Nakamura with a kinshasa, sending Braun’s head into the ring post. Double suplex / helluva kick, Zayn with the cover and wins the title! Winner and New Intercontinental Champ: Sami Zayn
Match Rating: 3/5- I’m actually cool with Zayn winning the title because he’s entertaining. Could we get dissension between Zayn, Nakamura and Cesaro?
The main event saw the Raw Women’s Elimination Chamber match. Sarah Logan, Asuka, Shayna Baszler, Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan and Natalya battled for a show at Becky Lynch. Ruby Riott and Natalya started things off and battled until Sarah Logan was next. They continued to fight until Shayna Baszler entered the match and dominated. Baszler eliminated Sarah Logan and Ruby Riott immediately. Shayna went after Natalya and pummeled her with one of the pods of the door. She eventually made Natalya tap and she waited until the next person came out. Liv Morgan was next, and she put up a fight for a few seconds. Baszler beat up Morgan and tossed her headfirst into the pod and cage. Baszler eventually made Morgan pass out. Asuka came out and battled, but Baszler eventually made her pass out also. Winner: Shayna Baszler
Match Rating: 3.75/5- This was the perfect way to book Baszler as she prepares for Becky Lynch.
Overall Rating: 7/10- This was a pretty good PPV and actually better than expected. Below are my top 3 matches from the Elimination Chamber.
- Smackdown Tag Elimination Match
